A CITY-WIDE LABORATORY
“You cannot value students as intellectual beings without being willing to challenge them, and if they don’t feel valued, they will resist being challenged.”
Optimize the life opportunities of children and families in urban communities by ensuring the availability of a prosperous and equitable school environment through community engagement, research and educational development and support.
Get Connected
Dr. Alonzo Crim believed that every person in the community is a stakeholder in public education and has a vested interest in the quality of the public educational system. He understood the importance that students need to know those who are important in their lives believe in their potential and success.
To accomplish such a support system, Dr. Crim mobilized a network of stakeholders made up of students, parents, educators at all levels, business persons, members of the clergy and citizens-at-large. He called this network the Community of Believers. The Crim Center utilizes this strategy to create solutions for the challenges facing urban schools and communities today.
Get Informed
The Crim Center’s affiliated faculty, graduate assistants and staff actively engage in robust research projects guided by these questions:
- What is the value of empirical research to schools and communities in metro-Atlanta and beyond?
- How do we overcome the challenges of making research accessible and relevant to the community stakeholders?
- How do community stakeholders inform research initiatives and developing lines of inquiry at Georgia State and vice-versa?
Do the Work
From the Jumpstart early literacy program, to the Early College and T.E.E.M.S AmeriCorps programs, the Crim Center offers a variety of community outreach programs to inspire and motivate young students to succeed. View our offerings on their individual pages:
