Our world has experienced countless moments of intersection and connection since the launch of the Sources Conference 15 years ago. This year, during our virtual conference, we focus on this particular moment in our history that spotlights the interconnectedness of our world.

From Barriers to Bridges: The Urgency of Justice-Oriented Urban Education
2019’s Sources Conference draws on Atlanta’s rich and historical legacy within the civil rights movement. Like others before them, activists like Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King, Lonnie King, Diane Nash and Bayard Rustin worked courageously to eliminate inequities and injustices that denied civil rights and liberties to communities of color.

It’s About Visibility: Narratives, Critiques and Collective Understanding
At our 13th annual conference, we kicked off with a history lesson of the Crim Center by its director, Dr. Brian Williams. Powerful speakers gave insight on a call for collective learning and study. We focused on topics such as, “Why Young People Take Social Action,” “Is Gentrification the New School Push?” and more.

Catalyzing Truth in Action: Think, Question, Discover
At our 12th annual conference, we charged community members to think about their truth and what role that truth takes in the classroom and education. We also considered the status quo of learning environments and discovered new methods of critical study.

Breaking (The Neutral) Ground: Collaboration, Negotiation in Urban Education
At our 11th annual conference, we joined forces with CTAUN-ATL (Committee on Teaching About the United Nations). CTAUN-ATL exists to provide opportunities for educators to learn, understand and appreciate the work of the U.N. and to incorporate global awareness into curricula and school activities at all levels. We also looked at refugee resettlement and immigration reform.
